Quantify Alignment Accuracy Gains over Contact Methods

# Quantify Alignment Accuracy Gains Over Contact Methods

Contact aligners relied on direct mechanical registration between mask and wafer, which was limited by how precisely an operator or fixture could position two physically touching surfaces.

Micralign's projection system aligned mask to wafer optically, through its imaging path, achieving tighter and more repeatable registration than direct mechanical contact alignment could reliably deliver.

This alignment accuracy improvement mattered because each new layer printed on a wafer had to register precisely against layers already printed in prior process steps, and tighter alignment directly reduced layer-to-layer misregistration defects.
