what is fmeca process
FMECA = Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis. You look at each component/step of a product and ask: what could fail (failure mode), what happens if it does (effect), how bad is it (criticality), and how do we prevent or detect it. It's a structured risk tool, usually done as a table (component / failure mode / effect / severity / likelihood / action). WHY GPS CONTRIBUTES: the field is where failures actually show up, so GPS engineers bring real-world failure knowledge into the FMECA so engineering designs out the risky failure modes before they ship. When asked, give the 4-word loop: mode -> effect -> severity -> prevention. Then note you bring field data to make it real.
