ASML-Nxe3400
The ASML TWINSCAN NXE:3400 family is an EUV lithography platform for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The model family includes variants with different specifications, so a numerical performance claim needs a suffix such as NXE:3400B. The scanner is one part of a production ecosystem that also requires qualified masks, resists, metrology, and process integration.
The NXE:3400B uses 0.33 numerical-aperture reflective projection optics. ASML’s product documentation specifies Zeiss four-times-reduction optics and a maximum scanned field of 26 by 33 mm. EUV’s approximately 13.5 nm wavelength requires reflective optics and a vacuum environment. Numerical aperture and wavelength jointly influence imaging capability.
Throughput specifications depend on the exposure conditions. The published NXE:3400B target of at least 125 wafers per hour is tied to a stated dose, field size, and shot count. Changing dose or the wafer exposure plan changes the workload. A quoted scanner rate therefore requires its accompanying conditions and should not be treated as a guaranteed fab output.
Alignment and focus connect the scanner to the complete wafer process. Successive layers must be positioned relative to earlier patterns, and the surface height must be measured accurately. Wafer films and process history affect those measurements. Production qualification therefore assesses overlay and focus alongside nominal resolution.
The family marks an industrial stage of the EUV development effort. ASML’s history records customers ordering production-ready NXE:3400 systems in batches in 2016. That milestone is distinct from earlier prototype shipments and later variants. The useful historical description combines the named model, its documented conditions, and its role in a qualified manufacturing flow.
