Name the Address Pin Explosion Problem

# Name the Address-Pin-Explosion Problem

Doubling the number of address bits needed to reach 4K density meant, under the old addressing convention, doubling the number of address pins on the package.

Each address pin was a dedicated signal line that had to run its own trace, occupy its own package pad, and be driven by its own output buffer on the controlling logic.

Left unaddressed, the pin count on a straightforward 4K part would have outgrown the standard DIP package pin budget that system designers expected a memory chip to fit.
